Emotional freedom technique is a marriage of Eastern energy medicine and Mind Body Medicine. The "tapper" taps lightly on the same acupuncture points that Easern healers have used for centuries, while simultaneously while concentrating on an uncomfortable emotion or condition. Case Study: Fear of Flying Removed in One Telephone Session 

Imagine what its like to be terrified of flying in an airplane, but your career demands regular air travel.

Anne (not her real name) was not just a nervous flier. She was deeply frightened. Although she coped reasonably well with short flights over land, she was terrified of flights over water and of flights that encountered air turbulence.

For days and weeks prior to a flight, Anne experienced strong dread and anxiety. Upon boarding a plane, she asked the flight attedants about expected air turbulence and asked to be warned in advance of any air turbulance that might occur. By knowing in advance, she would attempt to calm herself.

In early 2008, Anne's work required that she fly from North America to the Middle East. The flight was over water and almost certain to encounter turbulence.

I invited Anne to do an EFT session with me over the telephone. She agreed, and we spent perhaps an hour and a half tapping. This took longer than expected because during our session, Anne encountered emotional trauma stemming from a previous frightening experience on an airplane.

However, at session's end, Anne thought her fear of flying was almost completely removed. We wouldn't know for sure until she actually made her flight, but she felt confident.

The day of the flight, Anne did a little follow up tapping session on her own before boarding. She reported having absolutely no fear or discomfort during that flight, or on any flight she has taken since then.

To someone like Anne, its nothing short of a miracle. She now flies with confidence and has no anxiety prior to or during her time in the air.

What is a Phobia? 

A phobia is an irrational fear. Because phobias are irrational, they don't respond to intellectual reasoning.

Persons suffering from phobias often experience embarrassment and shame over a fear that makes no sense. Some have experienced ridicule from others or may have been tormented by people threatening them with the feared object.

Until now, phobias have been difficult conditions to remove. Some phobia sufferers have experienced relief through techniques like hypnosis, imagery or behavioral conditioning.

EFT is easier and faster.

For example, I once had a snake phobia. I was afraid of any and all snakes. I was even anxious looking at pictures of snakes. No matter how many people assured me that the snakes in my area were harmless gartner snakes, I remained terrified.

Thanks to EFT, I am no longer afraid of snakes. Naturally, I'm not about to handle a poisonous snake. That would be foolish. Getting rid of a phobia doesn't mean you take ridiculous risks, after all.

Phobias that typically respond well to EFT include fear of flying, fear of elevators, fear or heights, fear of snakes, spiders or insects, fear of feathers or birds, fear of water, claustrophibia, agoraphobia, and many others.

Related conditions such as test anxiety, fear of dentistry, fear or public speaking, performance anxiety relating to sports or other performances, anxiety around sales calls (for business people) also respond well to emotional freedom technique.
